Info package about AC

Hello all,

Yes, Alumnis got a totally new role in AC this year. There were made decisions about:

1) THE ROLE OF ALUMNIS: was made a decision that the experienced
EGEAns (Dinosaurs) and graduated geographers (Alumni) would form an independent network outside the formal structure of EGEA. The goal is to keep the group of egeans together in a longer time span and on the other hand to bring more professional and scientific aspects to EGEA activities.

Along the decision, the EGEA Dinosaurs & Alumni has a) two places in AC, b) a bit more limited possibility to join other congresses as a as a workshop leader, lecturer, facilitator or co-organiser and c) a possibility be a member of EGEA committees. The involvement of members of EGEA Dinosaurs & Alumni in the entities is up to the entities themselves.

More info here: (Alumni Proposal for EGEA’s Protocol http://www.egea.eu/upload/member/1325/Alumni_Proposal_Protocol_BoE_final...)

2) CO-OPERATION BETWEEN EGEA AND ALUMNIS:
EGEA will have close relations and extensive cooperation with EGEA Dinosaurs & Alumni which means in practice a) establish regular communication mechanisms between the Board of EGEA and the Board of EGEA Dinosaurs & Alumni, b) defining shared responsibilities and elaborate clear task division, c) integrating EGEA Dinosaurs & Alumni into EGEA activities through involvement as mentors, lecturers, facilitators, trainers etc. and d) into the EGEA working structure through
involvement as advisors and committee members.

More info here: (Strategic Plan 2009-2012 http://www.egea.eu/upload/member/1325/Strategic_Plan_final.pdf)

3) CHALLENGE FOR THE YEAR 2009-2010:

The Policy Paper suggests alumni meetings (video or live) twice a year with BoE. Alumnis are encouraged to organize an event for egeans and to develop the idea of the EGEA Academy (idea made in Alumni weekend 2008) more concrete.

More here: (Policy Paper, http://www.egea.eu/upload/member/1325/Attachment_25_-_Policy_Paper_2009-... )

AC was, along these decisions, very interesting experiment about a new kind of congress: the programme varied between workshops, trainings, lectures and open discussions. The BoE of last year was willing to reform EGEA, which can be seen in the amount and content of new official documents. The content and the workings of committees are renewed and probably more open than before. Committees ARE an intresting way to EGEA Dinosaurs & Alumni to take part into EGEA activities!

In the corridors, outside the official discussion, it was clearly noticeable that there are lots of very experienced egeans around and also many of them are graduating soon. It is clear that they would like to have a bit new kind of challenges and also to stick with the existing group of already very good EGEA friends. So they should be taken along to this discussion of our future activities.

Next, concrete things are needed, as the role of alumnis is officially set after so many years of discussion. EGEA Dinosaurs & Alumni got so many rights and so much encouragement from the previous (and the new one also, as I talked to them) BoE and the EGEA members, that we really need to be thankful – and show what we have to give EGEA.

First, I think we should to think what could our event for the egeans be like and also formulate our own group into the new EGEA page. I’ve also thought the possibility of having regional dinosaur&alumni contact persons who would take care of the information sharing & discussion at the local level. This would make the work of the Alumni board much more easy&effective. And we definitely have to finish the Year Book, Matthias ;)

Great job!

Congratulations Satuli! In my opinion now EGEA D&A looks more oriented to the last aims of EGEA - student goes working :) Maybe I am a bit late for this discussion but I am really interested in involving EGEAns into my recent job as geographer. I work on UE projects for selfgovernment of Suwalki Region in NE of Poland.
Question 1. I have an interesting subject, interesting places to visit and stay for the workshops, but no vision of finansing. Where could we discuss it?
Question 2. When we come to the details of action plan for academic masterpieces we enter to the fields of law and admnistration which differs among the countries. How to cope with the risk of putting EGEAns' brilliant ideas to the drawer of local authorities?
Question 3. "The CHANGE is possible/needed/necessary" - such a statement or even "project of a project" could be the output of the meeting. Is it enough for EGEA?

I ask as a dino and as a public officer:)

create new posts maybe

hi wojtek,
as your questions are not directly connected to this thread, please try opening new threads, preferably one for each field of dicussion.
with a lot of things merged together in a thread with a different starting topic, its not easy to start fruitful discussions and get clear results.

so, please think about "talking" headlines and elaborate your questions a bit more, cuase for me it was a bit hard to find out what you really mean.

cheers
bernd
